TOURMASTERS VACATION PACKAGES FOR MEXICO'S COPPER CANYON AND THE BIG BEND AREA OF TEXAS

Pre-planned packages for individuals and families

Though adventurous travelers from over the world have visited this beautiful and unique destination by passenger train and motor coach for nearly forty years now, the general public is just now finding out about it.

Entry points are Presidio and El Paso, Texas and Los Mochis, Mexico. You may take as few as 4 days to do a partial tour or as many as 8 days or more to get the most out of the train route for the 8 day tour. You cross the continental divide 3 times, passing through 3 distinct plant ecologies, going through 80 tunnels (the longest one of which is 1 mile long), traveling over 400 miles in length from Chihuahua to Los Mochis.

You may take a hosted (unescorted) tour with help along the way from our representatives or a guided (escorted) tour with one of our professional bilingual tour guides. Employees in the hotels and on the train and with other supplier businesses along the route speak both English and Spanish.

For information on itineraries and pricing, refer to the brochure on this web site. Should you choose a guided tour, just add $100.00 per day (not per individual) to the price of the package. The guide would be with you fulltime from the beginning to the end of the tour.

For the best of both worlds (soft adventure, comfortable hotels and trains) you will remember your trip for a lifetime with reminisces of the Tarahumara Indians, mountain and canyon grandeur, and the culture, history, flora, fauna, geology and archeology of this vast and exciting place - a destination for all ages.

For a most memorable trip - why not combine the Big Bend of Texas with Copper Canyon - they are relatively close to each other and offer a variety of things to do. Phone , email, or fax us for Big Bend info.

Towns, Villages and Cities
Along the Copper Canyon train route

These are the cities, villages and towns you can visit on your Copper Canyon tour through TourMasters. Tours vary from 4 to 8 days or longer. Extra hotel nights are available at all stops along the Copper Canyon route.

CHIHUAHUA-
you will be driven by modern, air conditioned motor coach from El Paso or Presidio, Texas. The train starts here in Chihuahua which was founded as a mining and cattle ranching center in 1709 and is the capital of the State of Chihuahua which now has a population of over 4,ooo,ooo people. Many attractions are available including the Poncho Villa Museum, State Museum, historical aqueducts and the Cathedral.

CREEL-
located on the outer rim of the canyon, it was established as a mining and lumber town. Bus tours are available of the countryside to include vast forest, mountain lakes, waterfalls and caves still inhabited by the Tarahumara Indians. They still maintain their traditional rights, laws and customs including rain dances and long distance endurance foot races. They are shy and elusive, avoiding human contact as they migrate the canyons with seasons. Some have taken on modern ways and make their living from tourism. Very few speak Spanish as they have their own dialect passed on through generations. Because of their unsociable nature, many still live in caves or rough cabins instead of villages.

DIVISADERO-
this little village sits on the rim of the canyon. Its name means "the dividing". Located 28 miles southwest of Creel, visitors experience breathtaking views where many canyons come together here. Rustic and spacious accommodations await your comfort. You can explore on your own, take a guided walking tour of the Indian cliff dwellings or bargain with the Tarahumara women for basketry and other artifacts made by them.

BAHUICHIVO/CEROCAHUI-
another popular stop in the heart of the canyon area is the small settlement of Bahuichivo cradled in a picturesque valley surrounded by the mountains. 12 miles east by bus is the village of Cerocahui (population of 600) and a mission dating from 1690 that has been converted into a 30 room hotel named Hotel Mission. The half hour ride from Bahuichivo takes you along a scenic mountain road past unusual rock formations and crystal clear streams. An all day bus tour to the bottom of Urique Canyon is available here.

EL FUERTE-
Two outstanding hotels are provided for your stay in this Colonial town- Posada del Hidalgo and El Fuerte Lodge. Both are converted mansions that were built around the turn of the 19th century- masterfully designed in architectural beauty and featuring tropical gardens, antique displays and fantastic murals.

LOS MOCHIS-
this southwest gateway to the Copper Canyon is the starting point for visitors flying in from Los Angeles, Tuscon or Tijuana and is an overnight stay for passengers originating from Chihuahua. Los Mochis means "the turtles". It is a growing sea port and is famous for its delicious seafood. Topolobampo, a fishing village nearby, offers scenic bay cruises where sightings of porpoises is common.

LA PAZ- (BAJA PENNINSULER)
Spaniards settled La Paz in the early 19th century concentrating on its rich pearl beds as a source of income. You will enjoy spectacular sunsets, illuminating colonial architecture, world class sport fishing and shopping. A long sand bar, El Magote, protects the sunny beaches making them some of the most peaceful in the Sea of Cortez.

LOS ALAMOS-
cobblestone streets, restored 16th Century Spanish Andalusian Haciendas, a profusion of flowers - Alamos is an oasis of tranquility and beauty. Located only 2-3 hours from Mochis or El Fuerte. This region is a Mecca for botanists, bird watchers, historians, artists and photographers.
